Recognition
-
Students who obtain their primary medical qualification outside the UK or EU are required to pass the PLAB examination to gain registration in the UK. Students are advised to check directly with the GMC whether their degree will make them eligible to sit the PLAB. In the past M&D students have not experienced problems gaining recognition in the UK.
-
Students wishing to practise in the US must pass the USMLE examinations to gain registration to practise in the US.
Financial Requirements
-
Click here to view a table of fees.
-
It costs £150 for the first choice, then £100 for each additional choice thereafter (on the same application form). So a student who applies for Comenius and Charles HK would pay £150 for Comenius (as the first choice), then £100 for Charles HK, adding up to a total of £250.
-
The application fee is non-refundable.
-
The average student is expected to spend around £5000 in living expenses per academic year. This includes accommodation, food, travel expenses and books. However this figure is intended for guidance only and exact figures vary according to the lifestyle of the student.
-
No. Currently, in the UK, assistance towards tuition fees is not available for students who study at a university outside the UK.
Foreign students must have private/parental/personal financial support towards all expenses for study outside the UK.
-
It is expected that the fees quoted at the beginning of the course will remain the same for the duration.
-
Once you have been offered a place, if you would like to break the fees down into instalments this may be possible. To arrange this you should contact the university’s finance office only once you have been offered a place.
-
The fees are the same for all students, regardless of nationality.
Academic / Entrance Requirements
-
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis looking at their transcripts, personal statement and references. If your academic background needs improvement then you may be advised to commence the Pre-Medical programme (see www. mdpremed.com) which will prepare you to study medicine at one of our European Universities.
-
Yes. M&D Europe will assist such students, providing that the student has confirmation on which exams they have already completed at a university medical school. Each applicant is treated as an individual case and may be granted exemption from certain exams and even shorten their course by one or two years.
-
No, because although some of what you will learn in your first year will be familiar to you, only students who have completed part of a Medicine degree will be able to gain entry straight into the 2nd year of the course. However, you should still be able to gain exemption from any specific modules which you have already passed, provided you can show us proof. Don’t forget that the pre-clinical years are a vital time for students to learn sufficient local language skills to be able to communicate with patients and hospital staff during clinical years.
-
If you are applying to Comenius University in Slovakia and are taking the Pre-Med, you may be eligible for second-year entry (so will study 5 years in Slovakia rather than 6). Our other European universities will require you to enter the first year of a 6 year programme.
-
If students narrowly miss the pass mark on the entrance exam, but have a strong overall application, we will try to negotiate with the university on your behalf. If there are places available it may be possible to secure you a place.
-
Comenius and MUG test A-Level standard Biology and Chemistry, whilst Charles HK tests A-Level standard Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
-
Yes, we are offering a revision weekend on the 15th&16th of May. The weekend will consist of three sessions (Chemistry, Biology and Maths/Physics). They will be held at Albion College at a cost of £120 per session and £300 for all three. They are run by qualified A-Level teachers. For more information and to book a place go to our website: Exam Revision Courses
-
Please contact M&D to discuss the possibilty of a revision pack.
-
We have had students in the past who have not studied Physics or Maths at A-Level pick up the basics at the revision weekend and go on to pass the exam. Remember that you only have to take one or the other in the exam. Physics/Maths is a small section of the paper compared to Biology and Chemistry.
-
Usually, it does not take long for the university to mark the papers and make a decision.
-
Usually, decisions are made based on the strength of the application and entrance test. However, in borderline cases an interview may be required.
-
No, the only students who can be exempted are those who have already passed A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths or Physics at AAB (not predicted grades).
-
No, M&D arrange the entrance exams in central London.
-
The costs of the exam are covered in your initial application fee.

-
It will be held on Sunday 30th May 2010

We do usually hold a late entrance exam for Comenius University and the Medical University of Gdansk, however the amount of spaces available will be much smaller. It is therefore best to apply for the first set of exams to increase your chances of getting an offer.
Applying to UK Medical / Dental Schools
-
Yes, you can apply through M&D to study at one of our European universities without affecting the number of UCAS choices you can make and without jeopardising your chances of getting into a UK medical school. That way you can be confident at UK interviews, knowing that should you be unsuccessful you can always study medicine in Europe!
-
This is very unlikely and we would advise students to assume that it is not possible.
Language Requirements
-
Yes, all of the lectures and course materials will be in English, and you will be given lessons in the local language as part of the course so that you will be able to talk to patients and hospital staff in your clinical years.
-
Yes, as during the clinical years you will be required to communicate with patients and hospital staff who may not speak English. During the pre-clinical years all students will take lessons in the local language to prepare them for the clinical years.
-
If English is not your first language, you are normally expected to have passed a recognised test in English to the level of IELTS 6.5 or above, with no less than 6.0 in the writing and listening sections.
Course Details
-
Most European universities conduct all final exams orally, but you will also complete written exams at other times.
-
Yes, it may be possible to transfer between faculties but only after the first year.
-
From this year, students at Comenius University could spend two years out of six in the UK. By taking the M&D Pre-Med, you are spending the first year in the UK (and can then gain second year entry to Comenius) and it is not possible for students to spend the final clinical year in the UK as well, meaning a total of only four years in Bratislava!
Other
-
Why not kill two birds with one stone - prepare yourself for the entrance exams without losing out on your A-Level revision time (the revision weekends cover A-Level Chemistry, Biology, Physics/ Maths).
-
M&D will not be arranging visits but you are welcome to go and have a look at where you will be staying and studying for the next 5-6 years, and we will help you arrange a meeting with one of the tutors there if you wish.
-
Term dates are similar to those in the UK, therefore with lengthy holiday breaks you may only need to be abroad for eight months each year.
-
We understand that going abroad is a backup for many students, and therefore if you are offered a place you are not obliged to accept.
-
Often, students are waiting for one or two of the documents on the application form checklist, such as a reference or medical check. In these circumstances, we advise you to give us a call to see if you could send your application form in anyway and add the missing documents later. This way you are securing your seat at the entrance exam without delay.
-
Unfortunately the entrance exams are currently only held in London.
-
The European universities that we offer have set up separate English-speaking courses primarily to cater for English speaking students of other countries. As only a small number of really dedicated students will consider going abroad, competition is not as fierce as in the UK but there are fewer places available.

Many UK medical schools and dental schools receive many applications to study medicine or study dentistry and places are very limited. Therefore, the preparation of a UCAS application form for medical or dental school is very important. Online Medical Admission forums are an excellent way to exchange views and ideas on what medical schools are looking for and which medical and which dental schools actually ask the toughest interview questions. The premed course is an excellent way to secure a place at a UK medical schools in the UK or medical schools based abroad. Medical and dental school applicants are strongly advised to get as much medical work experience and possible. Medical work experience seminars and dental work experience seminars consist of a series of medical seminars and dental seminars at a NHS hospital based in Britain. Many students also fine that UKCAT revision and UCAS Personal statement checking is very helpful.
Fierce competition for UK medical school places has encouraged students to embark on medical degrees and dental degrees outside of the UK, such as: Medical schools in Poland, Medical schools in Slovakia, Dental schools in Slovakia, Medical schools in Prague, Dental schools in Prague and Medical schools in the Caribbean.
