Located in the middle of the Great Forest, The University of Debrecen is a prestigious university in one of the largest cities in Hungary with a higher education history dating back to the 16th Century. Today the Medical and Health science Centre has over 6000 students and 330 highly skilled lecturers.
Studying dentistry at Debrecen is an inspiring choice for UK and international students who wish to develop not only their professional skills but also their cultural awareness in Eastern Europe.
During the 1st year of this carefully structured programme, students gain an understanding of the basic medical sciences. In the second year the program broadens to encompass Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Behavioural Sciences.
In the third pre-clinical year students learn the principles of patient treatment. During practical seminars in the phantom head laboratory they will learn about cavity preparation as well as fixed and removable prosthetics.
In the 4th year, students begin to treat patients in the Clinical Practice Unit. They are introduced to all clinical dental fields (Restorative Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry, Periodontology, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Paedodontics and Orthodontics). During the final two years students take responsibility for treating their own patients in small-group practice classes under the close supervision of staff members.
Students spend much of 5th year writing their thesis and taking their final examination. Once students have successfully completed the degree they are awarded with a D.M.D degree.

Debrecen and its surroundings are situated in the eastern part of Hungary in the area between the River Tisza and the border line towards Romania.
Debrecen has an excellent transport system including an international airport,electric railway, tram and a frequent coach service which connects the smaller villages and towns to the county centre. Budapest can be easily reached in two or two and a half hours’ time by car and in three hours’ time by train.
The main square in front of the Big Reformed Church is the city’s hub. There are fountains, blooming trees and many coffee terraces. The grand Coskonai Theatre and Déri Museum both play an important role in the flourishing cultural life characterising the city. Summer is the time of festivals; people come far and wide for the famous Debrecen Flower Carnival and the Debrecen Jazz Days. Those wishing to take a rest are welcome in the Big Forest where the famous Debrecen Spa Bath and the Mediterranean Aquaticum are located.
Application Procedure: Complete M&D Application; sit entrance examination which focuses on Chemistry, Biology and Physics; take an interview; receive offer.
Entrance Requirements: To have achieved at least grades B,B,B at A-Level standard or an equivalent with at least two subjects being science based. And to successfully complete the entrance examination and interview. There is a 21-question multiple choice test from Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If the applicants would like to be accepted to the 1st year of the General Medicine or Dentistry, you have to achieve 8 points out of 21 at least. The test is only 30 mins long.
